Tuesday, April 7, Purging Appointments. The Appointment Book stores data for appointments as far into the past as you have been using Dentrix. After your practice has been using Dentrix for several years, you can accumulate a large amount of data stored in the Appointment Book. You can purge the Appointment Book of data from several years ago to decrease the amount of data being stored in the Appointment Book and speed up your system.
To purge appointments: Open the Purge Appointments utility. There may be times when you need to alter the default hours for your whole practice. Chances are you have never had to make adjustments to the default practice hours. Under Default Scheduleselect the days of the week your practice is open. For additional information on adjusting your practice schedule, see the following topics in Dentrix Help:. To make scheduling appointments easier, you should ensure that each provider's work schedule is accurately set up in Dentrix to reflect their availability.
Select the provider whose schedule you want to make changes to, and click Setup. Wednesday, March 18, Closing Operatories in Dentrix. At times you may need to close an operatory. It could be for repairs, due to providers being out sick, or for other reasons. Select the operatory to close, and then click the Schedule button. Double-click the date on the calendar you want the operatory closed on, and adjust the Start Time and End Time.

There may be times when you need to close your practice or make changes to your schedule and need a way to let your patients know about those changes. Email is an efficient way to do that.

The program requirements say we only need 2 gb of memory on the server, but every workstaion is taking forever to pull things up in this program. Since that time, we have found that Dentrix G5 does provide some nice new features for our clients, but it also comes with some challenges. Overall, I feel that G5 is a good move to make as there are issues with all versions of all programs. I am sure that Dentrix will address the issues that we are currently struggling with. I really like the ability to stop and start the server service rather that rebooting the server PC. I love the screen capture feature of Dentrix G5. It makes it even easier to add content to the document center. System Backup is easy to setup. I like the fact that all the files that you need to backup are more consolidated with Dentrix G5 than previous versions of Dentrix. I also like that Dentrix G5 exports you live data to a backup folder on a schedule making it less important that users exit Dentrix to get a good backup.
Cons: Memory leak. There are still offices experiencing slow downs of their Dentrix Database. Dentrix is aware of the issue and I have been told that they are working to resolve the problem. I have had some offices that had the problem resolved with the Productivity Pack 1 but I still have the problem with some offices. I have had spent many hours of the phone with Dentrix Support getting the eSync configured properly to work with Dentrix G5.
Eventually I have always been able to get it to work but not without out significant effort. I have spent a great deal of effort working to resolve this issue but so far it is still a problem. Best Wishes, Jody Hadley.

Thanks, Greg. We did use Windows 7. Something about scalability issues with Win7 as the server with lots of workstations. After six months in this configuration, it works just fine. We have 14 workstations on our network. But, certainty, there was much gnashing of teeth when we decided to go this route initially. Thank you for figuring this out. Dentrix did the same thing to one of our clients by making them sign a waiver and then saying they needed a new server.
Your fix did the trick. Chart and Treatment Planner were very slow to open and many times would just crash after the office had Dentrix upgrade them from G4 to G6.
They worked for hours with a tech and the conclusion was that Windows 7 was not a supported server OS and that they needed to upgrade.
I applied your fix and it worked immediately. Can you confirm that Dentrix requires all the client machines need to be run with administrative privileges? That seems crazy from a security perspective. Unfortunately, yes. Troubleshooting a local g5 install 2ith network problems. Everything in dentrix seems to work however the patient chart module will not open at all. Does the server for G5 actually require a static IP address?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Personally, this sounds like a problem with your router or hub, or with your Windows configuration. You probably need to contact Dentrix Support for this one. My epiphany came when I saw the source was an IPv6 address. I generally turn off IPv6 on my home network. If you are experiencing a problem with printing or a Dentrix error message, try the following troubleshooting steps:. Check to see if the printer is plugged in, turned on, on-line, and has paper. If the printer is connected directly to a computer and you've been trying to print from another computer via the network, try printing locally from the computer connected to the printer.
